SALKANTAY + MACHUPICCHU TREK 04 DAYS – 03 NIGHTS
DAY 01: CUSCO – LAGUNA HUMANTAY – SORAYPAMPA
We will start early passing by the hotels around 06:30 am with our tourist transport to then continue the trip heading first to Mollepata, a small town in the Andes mountain range where we can start with breakfast and take the necessary strength. Then we continue the trip until we arrive to Soraypampa where the team stays to start setting up camp and we continue to the high part to visit the beautiful Humantay lagoon with free time for us, then we return to the camp where everything is ready for us to have lunch and prepare ourselves physically for the next day which will be the strongest of the whole trek. We enjoy the afternoon free on our own to mingle with the local people and in the evening a delicious dinner to finally rest comfortably.
- Overnight at camp
DAY 02: PASO SALKANTAY – RAYAMPATA – CHAULLAY
This is undoubtedly the heaviest and most challenging day but the one that gives us the best result, we start early to have breakfast calmly in the camp and then begin the journey first arriving at Salkantaypampa where we will have a short break for the ascent and then to reach the highest point of the entire trek, the Salkantay pass is undoubtedly the most incredible point of the entire journey because of the direct and impressive view that gives us the snowy Salkantay. After a moment of contemplation we begin with the descent to reach the Rayampata sector where our team waits with everything ready so we can have lunch calmly, after resting we are ready to leave.
From this point onwards, the ecosystem begins to change as from the cold we begin to feel warm and humid breezes, we gradually enter the jungle so that this day we will arrive almost at dusk to our next camping point, the sector of Chaullay where we can have dinner at night and rest comfortably.
- Night in camp
DAY 03: CHAULLAY – SANTA TERESA – HIDROELÉCTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES
This will be a partially more relaxed day as we will wake up and after breakfast we will board a transport that will take us first to the sector of Santa Teresa, making some stops in the main coffee plantations to learn about the tradition of coffee planting. Upon arrival we will have lunch and rest for a while and then continue the journey to Hydroelectric where we will begin our walk of about 3 hours on the side of the railway to reach Aguas Calientes, a small town located at the foot of Machu Picchu. During the journey we can visit the Mandor gardens, where we can appreciate a variety of local flora and with a little luck we can find native bird species such as the cock of the rock. Upon arrival we will have lunch and have the afternoon free to visit the village and rest in our hotel to wait for our last day.
- Overnight in Aguas Calientes
DAY 04: MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
In the morning after breakfast we ascend in a tourist bus to the citadel of Machupicchu where we enjoy a guided and complete visit touring the main places such as the guardian’s house, main square, temple of the 3 windows and others.
After 2 hours of visit we leave the citadel to board a bus that will finally take us to Aguas Calientes where we can have lunch in one of the restaurants that are on private account. Finally in the afternoon we board a train that will take us to Ollantaytambo where we will make a connection with the tourist bus of bimodal service that will finally bring us to the city of Cusco, arriving on average at 18:30 pm.
