The Sillar Route in Arequipa is a tour that allows you to learn about the history and importance of this building material in the architecture of the city. Sillar is a white volcanic rock extracted from quarries in the area and used in the construction of many of Arequipa’s historic buildings. 

During the tour of the Sillar Route, visitors can learn about the techniques of extraction and carving of the stone, as well as the stories and anecdotes related to the construction of some of the most emblematic buildings of the city, such as the Church of the Company of Jesus and the Monastery of Santa Catalina.

Itinerary

ROUTE OF THE SILLAR HALF DAY

  • 07:30 – 08:00 Beginning of the experience at your hotel and meeting with the rest of the group.
  • 08:00 – 12:00 The road takes us first to the sector of Cayma where we enjoy free time in the main square, then to the quarry of Añashuayco from where we can appreciate the great cliffs (sources of sillar) and see a replica of the church of the company of Jesus.
  • 12:00 – 12:30 At the end of the experience we return by the same road for transportation and then to the city of Arequipa.
  • We finish our experience back to our hotel.
