ITINERARY

DAY 1 : CUSCO – LARES – HUACAHUASI

We departure from Cusco very early in the morning, heading to the town of Calca (2900 meters). On the way we pass through Calca Inca tombs, farming villages and herds of llamas. We pass as well the highest point of the day, and stop for a walk to the Inca ruins of Ancasmarca with panoramic views of the surrounding valley. From here we head towards the Lares Valley and the main town of Lares, where we can visit the local market before continuing to the famous hot springs. We take a bath before a lunch . In the afternoon we will walk about 3 hours to the village of Huacahuasi. Camping in the village of Huacahuasi. (Lunch, dinner ) . Overnight.

DAY 2: HUACAHUASI – Ipsayqocha

After breakfast, we begin climbing the highest point of our trip – Ipsaycocha pass (4200 m). We reach it after 4-5 hours walk. On the way we see beautiful snowcapped mountains, baby llamas and alpacas. After the pass, we descent for about 30 minutes to get the cemetery located near a lagoon called De Niza. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to fish in the lagoon and observe Andean gulls and geese. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner). Overnight.

DAY 3: Ipsayqocha – PATACANCHA – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

On this day of our trip we descend to the valley of Patacancha . Approximately 4 hours of walking, community dedicated to the development of textiles. From Patacancha we will take private shuttle to the town of Ollantaytambo. On the way we visit the remains Purmamarca, which is believed to have been built to protect the Sacred Valley. Lunch in Ollantaytambo. Before taking the train, we will visit the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. ( Tourist Ticket not included) . In the afternoon or evening board the train to Aguas Calientes. Overnight in Aguas Calientes. (Breakfast , lunch, dinner ) . Overnight .

DAY 4 : MACHU PICCHU ( Aguas Calientes) – CUSCO

After breakfast, we leave early to catch the first bus to Machu Picchu which goes at 5:30 to be at the citadel early to appreciate  the sunrise. Then we will have a detailed explanation of the Inka city and its main sites, we can also climb the mountain Waynapicchu from where you can see Machu Picchu in all its glory . Later , we will descend to Aguas Calientes to catch our train back to Cusco. ( Breakfast at hotel) .

Recommended to bring :

  • A backpack with clothes for travel . Recommended: T- shirts , shorts and outerwear .
  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
  • Boots or sturdy shoes .
  • Camera, memory cards, extra batteries
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain or cold
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent.
  • Snacks : biscuits , chocolates, etc.
  • Water bottle and sterilizing tablets ( Micropur )
  • Optional: (walking stick during the hike ) should be covered with rubber
  • If you want to rent an additional horse, the cost is $ 10 per day
